A Bit About Me
Hi, I’m Filiz!
I’m a student intern pursuing a Master’s in Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy at Wilfrid Laurier University.
Our close relationships mean everything to us. However, maintaining that connection and security can be difficult. I love helping people build genuine relationships with themselves and those they cherish.
Mental health “normalcy” has no set definition that applies to everyone. Trying to meet specific criteria can often lead to feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. Oppressive systems rooted in race, ability, class, gender, sexuality, and socioeconomic status can also contribute to isolation, invalidation, and a lack of support. I believe in a sex-positive, trauma-informed approach that empowers and guides individuals toward creating safe, healthy, and fulfilling relationships. To achieve this, I utilize various psychotherapeutic modalities, including narrative, solution-focused, cognitive-behavioural, emotionally-focused, and existential-humanistic therapies.
I’m grateful for the work I do every day. My experiences have cultivated a compassionate approach that I bring to help others heal. When I’m not working, I enjoy playing board games, watching comedy specials, and planning my next hiking trip. I live in Kitchener with my partner, our cat Bijou, and her dog Maggie.
